Organic Vegetable Gardening Blog

For years I've grown my own organic vegetable garden with my familiy. Growing our own vegetables is a fun hobby and rewarding because we get to eat the fruits of our labor. We've enjoyed having our own vegetable garden because it's relaxing and there's something more satisfying about eating something that you grew. This organic vegetable gardening blog is to help motivate others to grow their own organic vegetable gardens for your own enjoyment and to help the environment.

Planting Bed

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

It’s been freezing here in Southern California, so that’s a good thing for the winter vegetables.  Most of these plants had been growing for about three or four weeks before I started documenting their growth, so there probably about 8 weeks old.

All the plants are developing nice foliage and the broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts have nice strong stalks developing.  The cabbage are also taking on their form as the leaves are growing in a tighter formation.

The arugula is starting to sprout and the swiss chard, kale, and raddiccio that are growing from seed still haven’t sprouted yet.  We’re also in the process of clearing the last of the tomato plants because we still have a few left from the summer that still have fruit.  After that we’ll have more room to start growing a few more winter vegetables.

If you have any suggestions about what other winter vegetables I should give a shot at growing, please let me and the rest our readers know in the comment section.

2010 Backyard Winter Greens Week 3

These are week 3 pictures of my 2010 winter vegetable garden. I’ve been learning about cruciferous vegetables, and it just so happens that all of my greens are part of the cruciferous vegetable family.  The growth has been great with the plants so far, my only concern is the bugs that seem to be eating the napa cabbage.  Nothing else is being eaten.
If you have any informatio or advice, please let me know in the comment section.
Enjoy!

2010 Backyard Winter Greens Week 2

These were taken 8 days after the week 1 pictures.  It was pretty overcast so there wasn’t much sunlight.  For the Los Angeles area, it was a pretty warm November week with the average temperature topping 90 degrees.
